Current Focus Topics

About our Focus Topics

The TRANSIT think tank dedicates itself to a new focus topic approximately every year. The topic should be significant for the future of adult learning and education. It provides the framework for the questions and discussions that TRANSIT pursues. At the end of each focus topic, a trend report summarises the contents and outlines future perspectives for adult learning and education.

In a survey, the community has the opportunity to suggest new topics to the TRANSIT team, to vote on the topic suggestions and to point to particularly important aspects. On the basis of the survey, the TRANSIT team then selects the new topic.

What is happening around our Think Tank?

Our Community

The TRANSIT community consists of people who are interested in social developments and are enthusiastic about visionary thoughts on the future of adult learning and education. The TRANSIT community is interdisciplinary and open to all interested parties. In events, we generate ideas and drafts for perspectives in a joint process. We discuss and network. Committed experts work together with the TRANSIT team to develop basic principles and visions that flow into our publications.

Our current Focus Topic

The world is changing rapidly and the future is likely to bring many challenges. Be it through digitalisation, climate change or demographic change. There is widespread agreement that knowledge and learning are essential to successfully mastering current – and future – challenges.

Future skills are skills that are likely to become more important in various areas of life in the future. They should allow individuals to deal with the demands of a changing world and to actively shape the future. Future skills are likely to contribute to solving societal problems by enabling people to react to developments, find alternative ways of living and effectively perform new work tasks.

About our Events

In the TRANSIT events, we discuss and reflect on social developments and the resulting opportunities and challenges for adult learning and education. In a joint, creative process, we question habits, test visions and design perspectives. The events provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and – thanks to TRANSIT’s interdisciplinary basis – to network beyond the edges of the adult education scene.

Be part of the Community

The TRANSIT think tank follows an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach. In cooperation with interested parties, TRANSIT develops thematic foundations and perspectives for adult learning and education. TRANSIT thus combines perspectives from different disciplines and draws not only on theoretical and empirical knowledge but also on existing practical knowledge.
